Grade Equivalents show the grade level of students for whom a score is average or typical.  For example, a grade equivalent of 4.8   means that the child’s score is the same as what the average score of children in the eighth month of the 4^th grade would have been if these children had taken the same test.

Grade Equivalents do not show the level of the test.  For example, a grade equivalent of 6.8 on a 4^th grade test does not mean that the child can handle 6^th grade work.  It means that if sixth graders took the same test in April, the typical score would be the same as that fourth grader’s score.
